In a bid to disseminate road safety messages to members of the public, Traffic Kowloon West (T KW) staged a Safe and Joyful Cycling cum Road Safety Artistic Competition Presentation 2017 at Hong Kong Cultural Centre on October 14.

Acting Superintendent Wong Sai-kwan of Investigation and Support Division of T KW officiated at a kick-off ceremony, alongside with Chairman of Sham Shui Po Road Safety Campaign Committee Mr Cheng Muk-lam, Vice-chairperson of Kowloon City Road Safety Campaign Committee Ms Lam Suet-mui, Member of Yau Tsim Mong Road Safety Campaign Organising Committee Mr Hui Sai-cheong, and Kowloon West Regional Commander of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol Mr Gavin Lam.

They presented awards to winners of a drawing competition of the Road Safety Artistic Competition. In addition, the Police Silver Band, Dominic Savio Kindergarten and the Civil Aid Service (CAS) Cadet Corps explained the tips of safe cycling, with the CAS cycling team performing artistic cycling. Officers of  T KW also distributed road safety leaflets to passers-by near the Cultural Centre.

On the other hand, Traffic New Territories North (T NTN) and St John Ambulance Brigade (SJAB) have launched a pilot scheme to step up publicity of cycling safety and provide on-the-spot first aid services for cyclists in Nam Sang Wai, Yuen Long on Sundays from October to December.

Officers of T NTN Road Safety Team have been taking actions to remind cyclists in the area to pay more attention to road safety while SJAB has set up a temporary first aid post at a popular cycling spot and put up banners about their emergency service at adjacent accident-prone locations. T NTN and SJAB will evaluate the effectiveness of the pilot scheme afterwards.
