The Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC) of the Commercial Crime Bureau joined hands with the Criminal Intelligence Bureau and Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau to meet with representatives of the Communications Association of Hong Kong and eight major telecommunication companies on December 13 to discuss ways to curb telephone deception.

The ADCC collaborated with three major local mobile network operators to send SMS messages to the latter's service users during the Christmas holidays, appealing to the public to beware of telephone fraud and pay attention to the latest anti-scam information provided by ADCC's "Anti-Scam Helpline 18222" and website.

The helpline, operated by the ADCC round the clock since July 20, 2017, provides timely advice and assistance to the general public against various types of deception. By December 31, the helpline has received over 11 500 public enquiries. The ADCC also provides professional support services to frontline investigative units of the Force. These units have made 516 stop-payment requests involving about HK$1.21 billion, of which a total amount of HK$177 million was intercepted by the ADCC.
