With the launching of the new e-Report Centre on the Police public website on June 27, Assistant Commissioner (Information Systems) Cho Ming-lung saw for himself the operation of the e-Report Centre at the Police Headquarters Communication Centre on that morning and urged the officers concerned to dedicate for their work.

The e-Report Centre has replaced the old e-Report Room, with new features to better meet the needs of users. The public can now make online reports of non-emergency cases both locally and overseas via the Police public website and the Force's mobile application. The e-Report Centre would not only offer user-friendly and standardised templates for reporting crimes, but also allow users to upload images and document files for Police investigation.

In addition, screening questions would be raised to identify emergency cases in a bid to divert the informants to report such cases via 999 or police stations. Other new features of the e-Report Centre include issuing an acknowledgment slip to the informant to confirm receipt of the report, and issuing a confirmation email to the informant with an e-reference number and the contact information of the unit responsible for initial handling of the report.

It is expected that the e-Report Centre would facilitate the public in making online reports and reduce the workload of frontline officers, in particular report room staff, in receiving reports.
