Deputy Director of Police College Dr Chiu Sau-mee led Police Constables (PCs) Ma Chun-hung and Yu Kam-pui to attend the International Research Conference on Community Policing and Public Administration at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) on June 13. The two PCs presented their research paper on "Connect the Disconnected Youth" to the audience.

The Police College identified the quality paper submitted by Mr Ma and Mr Yu in the fourth Force Research Award Scheme held earlier, and recommended them to give a presentation in the conference.

The conference, co-hosted by the EdUHK, the City University of New York and the Central Police University of Taiwan, invited some 20 scholars to speak on policing and governance issues. Head of the Department of Social Sciences of EdUHK Dr Gregory Fairbrother gave an opening address while Assistant Professor Dr Lawrence Ho presided over the conference. The participants included academics from New York, Japan, Taiwan, Macao and Hong Kong as well as students of EdUHK.

After Mr Ma and Mr Yu made their presentation, they had an intellectual discussion with other participants in their capacity of frontline practitioners of community policing. Their participation not only projected a positive image of the Force, but also showed the Force's commitment to providing more opportunities for junior police officers (JPOs) to broaden their horizons.
