Undaunted by the social incidents over the past year, some citizens who are determined to safeguard Hong Kong have joined the Force to help restore social order. Apart from fresh graduates, some of the candidates are over 30 years old and have entered the workforce for many years.

In fact, some candidates were not well prepared for the police selection process and they failed due to a lack of knowledge of police work, social experiences and interview skills. Some of them did not have sufficient training before attending the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and did not know the proper way of training and the requirement of PFT. Therefore, Recruitment Division has adopted a proactive recruitment strategy to recruit more potential candidates.

“It’s Never Too Late” video series

Candidates aged over 30 are not the minority joining the Force and the number of mature candidates has increased over the past year. Indeed, the Police College gave positive comments and welcomed these mature candidates who showed good attitude and performance during training. Thus, Recruitment Division produced a four-episode video series entitled “It’s Never Too Late”, featuring artiste Mr Yeung Ming as well as inviting some police constables aged over 30 to share their successful experience so as to encourage mature candidates to join the Force. The first episode was released on July 5.

Project ACHIEVE

Since 2018, Recruitment Division has collaborated with different local post-secondary institutions to implement “Project ACHIEVE”. The project invites final-year students of the participating institutions to join this one-year programme, which includes recruitment seminars, interview skills workshops as well as visits to different police units. Police ambassadors who graduated from the respective institutions also share their experiences with the project members. On June 7, 2020, Recruitment Division organised a recruitment day for the project members to undergo Preliminary Assessment, Physical Fitness Test and Group Interview. A total of 155 candidates passed the Group Interview on that day.

Police Mentorship Programme Outreach (PMPO)

The Police Mentorship Programme Outreach (PMPO) was launched in 2018 as a proactive recruitment strategy to inspire high-calibre Hong Kong students with global vision, who are studying or graduated from mainland or overseas tertiary institutions, to join the Force as Inspectors. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some students who were interested in joining the PMPO could not return to Hong Kong to attend an interview. Recruitment Division therefore conducted video interviews with students studying in Mainland China, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and the United States between March and June 2020. Finally, 55 students were recruited for the PMPO.

Physical Fitness Training Workshops

Starting from June 2020, Recruitment Division and Physical Training Instructors (PTIs) of the Police College have been conducting a series of PFT Workshops to provide training to the candidates who failed PFT. The workshops are held at the Police College every Saturday morning during which the PTIs provide training tips to candidates and allow them to have onsite practice before attending PFT again.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Recruitment Division will endeavour to recruit more high-calibre candidates to join the Force. Readers can visit the following links to obtain recruitment information of the Police and watch the videos of “It’s Never Too Late” series.
