With a view to promoting positive values as well as physical and mental health, Marine Port District (MPDIST) and the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) co-organised a recreational charity programme “Islands District Burn Calories Challenge”. Between July and October 2021, participants submitted their exercise records to the organiser, and raised funds through different organisations and private sponsors to support services of TWGHs. Over 1 400 marine police officers and members of public participated in the programme to promote crime prevention awareness and foster police-community relations.

A cheque handover cum awards presentation ceremony was held on November 30, 2021. Regional Commander of Marine David Jordan, Deputy Regional Commander of Marine Lau King-lun and District Commander of MPDIST Kevin Jacobs handed over a cheque with the donation of HK$163,000 to the Chairman of the TWGHs Mr Kazaf Tam and Chief Executive of the TWGHs Mr Albert Su.

The success of the programme was attributed to the support from the Rural Committees of Cheung Chau, Lamma Island and Peng Chau, the Honorary Presidents Councils of MPDIST’s Junior Police Call and Senior Police Call, the Sea Safety Ambassador Scheme Honorary Presidents Council, primary and secondary schools from Cheung Chau Division as well as participants.
