Hosted by the Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group and fully supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the Hong Kong Spirit Ceremony 2025 was held on January 20. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau (EODB) was presented with “Hong Kong Spirit 2025” Group Award for its outstanding performance displayed during the disposal mission of a bomb from the World War II in Quarry Bay, as well as its prolonged professional dedication.
The ceremony was attended by officiating guests including Member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and President of the Legislative Council Ms Starry Lee, and Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group Mr Li Dahong. In his address, Mr Li Dahong noted that a 1 000 pound World War II American aerial bomb was found at a construction site in Quarry Bay, which contained 500 pounds of high TNT explosive with the fuse in an unknown state, and the situation was extremely dangerous with the approach of Typhoon Ragasa. EODB officers responded immediately and operated for around 10 hours, evacuating about 6 000 residents and neutralised the bomb threat.
