The following letter was sent to Dear Sir, BETWEEN October 23 and 24 last year, I was assaulted from behind with a steel object and knocked unconscious on a ferry between Peng Chau and Mui Wo. I was in the deluxe section which had only a few passengers nearby at that time and my assailant had deliberately hidden himself to avoid detection. He also used deception when leaving the scene of the crime. Considering the circumstances I find the work done by the Police in identifying and apprehending the culprit superb by any standards of excellence. The assailant was tried, convicted and sentenced to imprisonment on February 23, 1999. I wish to express my sincere thanks to the Hong Kong Police and especially the work done by the team of Senior Inspector Tim Davis, including Senior Inspector David Mattison and Detective Police Constable Chan Hon-yick of Lantau South Division. I am particularly thankful to Mr Chan. It was apparent from the start that he was willing to extend himself even at inconvenient hours in order to help solve the crime. Thank you very much. Yours faithfully, |
DEAR MR FRANCIS, ON behalf of all the organisers and participants of the March 17th Anti-Piracy Rally and the subsequent procession to the Central Government Offices, I would like to thank you and all the officers under your command who so ably controlled and monitored the entire proceedings. At all times your officers were unfailingly polite and extremely efficient. Even working under conditions which were difficult due to the overwhelming turnout in support of our action, the men and women of the Police Force responded admirably and were extremely successful in their traffic, crowd control and event liaison management. The smoothness of the proceedings were due in no small part to your officers' efforts. We are very appreciative of all the courtesies extended by you and your officers. Thank you. Yours sincerely, |
