AIRPORT District officers found themselves conducting one of their more unusual operations recently. The arrival of the sacred Buddha's Tooth from Beijing on May 21 required a large turnout of officers to ensure the safe transport of the relic from the airport to its exhibition site in the Hong Kong Coliseum, Hung Hom. The relic, thought to be one of the two original teeth of the Lord Buddha, was encased in gold and loaded on to a lorry fitted with a giant pink lotus flower. The District provided security on the air side and checked the lorry which transported the shrine into town. Not only is its religious significance huge, the relic is also considered a Chinese national treasure. ![]()
