Entry Qualifications

About Us

To be considered as a Police Constable (Auxiliary) in the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force, the following entry qualifications are required:


  1. Nationality

    • be a permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

  2. Occupation

    • has a full time / part time job, be self-employed or has no regular employment;
    • be full time student of one of the local universities or institutes of higher education enrolling, alternatively, through the Auxiliary Undergraduate Scheme (AUS).

  3. Academic Requirements

    • Candidates should have –
      (a) (i) Level 2 or equivalent (Note 1) or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) (Note 2), or equivalent; or
      (ii) Level 2 (Note 3) / Grade E or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) (Note 2), or equivalent; and

  4. Language Proficiency Requirements

    • Candidates should have –
      (b) met the language proficiency requirements of
      (i) Level 2 (Note 3) or above in English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent; and
      (ii) Level 2 (Note 3) or above in Chinese Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent. Applicant without the minimum required Chinese language proficiency standard may also apply for the post. They will be arranged to attend, and must pass in each application, the Chinese Language Proficiency Test, which is held by the Force, before being offered appointment.
      (iii)

      The purpose of Chinese Language Proficiency Test is to evaluate an applicant's proficiency in the use of written Chinese while performing auxiliary police duties. It consists of 2 parts - 'Use of Chinese' and 'Chinese Essay Writing'.

      The 'Use of Chinese' requires an applicant to complete 30 questions in half an hour. The questions are based on three articles and included correction of words, restructuring of sentences, substitution of words by synonyms, filling in the blanks with conjunctions/phrases, etc.

      The 'Chinese Essay Writing' requires an applicant to write an essay of about 300 words on a given topic within one hour.

      (iv) be able to read and write Chinese and speak fluent Cantonese.

      Note

      1. For civil service appointment purpose, “Attained with Distinction” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade C in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 3 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE. “Attained” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade E in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE.
      2. The subjects may include Chinese Language and English Language.
      3. For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade C’ and ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ and ‘Level 2’ respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
  5. Physique

    • of good physique : attending a Physical Fitness Test is a pre-requisite; and
    • of good eyesight : spectacles are acceptable subject to an Eyesight Test.
