Private and semi-private beds in Hospital Authority hospitals

WE hope it never happens, but just in case you have to go to hospital it is worth knowing that civil servants, pensioners and their eligible dependants may choose the type of accommodation they want provided the beds are available and it is considered suitable by the Medical Officer in charge of the hospital.
Also, when a civil servant is admitted to hospital, he/she is entitled to enjoy reduced fees. In accordance with Civil Service Bureau Circular No. 13/98, the daily rate for a first-class bed payable by a hospitalised civil servant is $248. It will be $184 for a second-class bed, $161 for a semi-private bed or a special-class bed at Tsan Yuk Hospital, and $40 to $120 for a public bed (Note: depending on the required diet).
There are private ward beds in the Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary, Prince of Wales, Tung Wah, Tung Wah East, Hong Kong Buddhist, Kwong Wah, and Grantham Hospitals.
Moreover, semi-private beds are available in the Grantham, Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern, Pok Oi, Ruttonjee, and Tsan Yuk Hospitals.
Eligible persons being admitted to these hospitals have to produce a valid GF 181 or Try 447 in order to enjoy the benefit of fees reduction.
It pays to be aware of your entitlement in terms of medical benefits so that you may recover in a suitable accommodation in case of need.
