THE final stop of the Beijing/Shenzhen/Hong Kong Police Chinese Painting, Calligraphy and Photography Exhibition was held from 18 to 20 August at City Hall.
Jointly organised by the Hong Kong Police Painting and Calligraphy Club and the Painting and Calligraohy Association of the Chinese Security Bureau, the Hong Kong City Hall exhibition was opened by Commissioner of Police Eddie Hui Ki-on.
The successful showing attracted wide media coverage and drew large crowds in Beijing in late June and in Shenzhen in early August as was the case here in Hong Kong. Police members of both associations took the opportunity during the displays to share their views on Chinese art and to encourage more officers to become interested in taking up painting, calligraphy and photography as means of self-expression and personal growth-as well as an effective way to balance the many stresses of their day-to-day work.

First Police Arts Festival

OFFICIATING at the first Police Arts Festival held on 23 August at the Police Spots and Recreation Club, DCP MAN Tsang Yam-pui delivered an opening address in which he praised the work of the event's main organiser, the Police Arts Council, and thanked the many participants for making it a success.

The arts festival was jointly organised by the Police Handicraft Club, Police Children's Choir, Police Calligraphy & Painting club, Police Choir, Police Philatelic Club, Police Chinese Dance club, Police Chinese Culture Club and the Police Pop Music club, in a bid to promote healthy lifestyle.
Apart from the highly entertaining musical and dance performances (including a song from chairman of the Police Arts Council, ACP IS Peter Halliday), other highlights of the festival included a Chinese quiz chat show and demonstrations of Japanese and western flower arrangements and gift wrapping, as well as Chinese calligraphy and painting. Festival goers also enjoyed a One Dollar Auction organised by the Police Philatelic Club, and talks on growing Chinese orchids and natural therapy through Chinese herbs. Winners of a parent/child calligraphy competition had their works exhibited at the festival. Proceeds from handicrafts and works of art sold during the festival went toward a fund for mainland flood victims. In addition the Junior Police Officer's Association donated ten copies of their recent photo album. Our Caring Force, which were auctioned off to raise funds for the victims of the deluge.
