In a new video produced by the Staff Relations Group (SRG), two pairs of police twins share their experiences of serving in the Force. One pair is twin sisters Wong Kit-ching (the elder) and Wong Kit-ying (the younger). Nearly identical in appearance and voice, they grew up wearing matching clothes and sharing similar interests, and their paths have crossed time and again in remarkable ways. Though serving in different units, the twins remain in step, safeguarding their colleagues and the public with passion and empathy.
Inspired by “On the First Beat” to Pursue Police Dream
When asked what sparked their police careers, both of them named the TV drama “On the First Beat”. Moved by its portrayal of a police officer’s sense of mission and team spirit, they resolved to join the Force. The physical fitness test was what they worried about most when applying for the job. By working hard together, they passed the selection process and entered the Police College in the same intake.
Their close resemblance made them even harder to tell apart in matching recruit uniforms. They recalled with a laugh, “The instructors at the College all had eagle eyes - they never mistook us for each other.” After graduation, the elder sister chose to work in criminal investigation field in due course, while the younger joined the uniformed branch.
Turning Mutual Support into Carelinks Companions
When their father passed away suddenly years ago, the twins were devastated. The unwavering support of their colleagues helped them through the darkest days. “Everyone goes through low points and emotional ups and downs,” they said. Having experienced firsthand the power of care and companionship, they joined the Carelinks Cadre to give back.
Whether colleagues are struggling with work or family pressure, or calling late at night to talk through relationship problems, the twins always listen patiently and walk them through difficult times. They smiled, “Perhaps being twins makes it easier for us to strike up a conversation and connect with people.”
Learning and Striving for Excellence Together
Beyond work, the twins also pursued a Master’s degree in Criminology and Social Policy Studies together, putting lifelong learning into practice. Professors and classmates remarked they had never seen twins in the same class. The sisters laughed, “Our classmates didn’t have the eagle eyes of the instructors at the College. During presentations, professors and classmates would call our English names, but we had to answer for ourselves.”
From training at the College to frontline duties, and from supporting each other through adversity to walking side by side in the Carelinks Cadre, the twins have navigated every step hand in hand with compassion and resilience. Looking ahead, they hope to keep supporting their colleagues, spreading warmth and care as they move forward together.
