The newly-produced police short video “Small but Significant Role - CID Episode” will be released on P-TV on June 10. If your impression of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is very much stuck in the stereotypes of “non-stop work” and “never-ending shifts”, this short video might give you a whole new perspective!

When “CID Rookie” meets “Veteran Detective Brother Nam”:
Do you understand the heartening feeling of detecting?

The story begins with the main character, “CID Rookie”, fully immersed in detective work: piles of files on his desk, working overtime, missing family birthdays... Just when he starts questioning himself, “Sergeant Brother Nam” makes a grand entrance and captures the charm of CID work with a single line, “Because it’s cool! And with that comes the heartening feeling of detecting.”

Through scenes of “time travel and new start”, the video features Rookie’s investigation over a case originally filled with regret. Miraculously, he travels back to the very beginning of the case and meets Brother Nam. Under Brother Nam’s positive influence and guidance, the two work together to turn a tragic ending around. Watching the victim, once tearful, break into a smile, Rookie finally understands that irreplaceable “heartening feeling”.

Real-life detectives bring CID’s daily work to life with “true hearts”

The two main actors, Detective Sergeant Leung Pak-cheung (playing Brother Nam) and Detective Constable So Chun-sam (playing Rookie), are real criminal investigators. So Chun-sam admitted that initially, he was hesitant to act due to shyness, but in the end, he wanted to break the stereotypes of CID work in a different way and summoned the courage to act.

He shared, “I hope that through my own portrayal, my colleagues will understand that although CID work is tough, the brotherhood and the satisfaction from detecting are priceless.” He also chuckled, “Filming and acting aren’t easy either - we had to work overtime too. Comparatively, I still prefer investigating cases.”

Leung Pak-cheung laughed and said while he was experienced in investigating cases and could stay calm even at
double-homicide scenes, he honestly had no idea how to act. When asked how he managed to deliver the line “Because it’s cool” so effortlessly in front of the camera, Leung couldn’t help laughing and said, “Actually, I had several NG takes! But I wasn’t acting - I truly wanted to share with everyone the unparalleled sense of accomplishment and joy you feel when you genuinely help a victim and uphold justice.” He further expressed that the filming reminded him of his initial passion when he first joined the Force, and hopes this “heartfelt sharing” will inspire more colleagues to develop an interest in and resonance with crime investigation work.

Two major bonus footage: Surprise voice acting by the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner

In addition to an opening narration by Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Yip Wan-lung, the video ends with a golden bonus - a heartfelt monologue from Commissioner Chow Yat-ming, sharing his personal experience as a CID officer to encourage everyone. That’s all for the spoilers! For the full video, please watch it on P-TV.

As the title of the short video suggests, small roles can be just as significant. No matter which position or department you serve in within the Force, as long as everyone performs their duties diligently, each contribution is equally important in safeguarding Hong Kong.
